Not your Garden Variety Mall Rats

On the surface, they looked mean and scary, with piercings and blacker than black spikey hair, but when I approached them (as one must always do) to ask permission to take their photo, they got all giggly and were very happy to ham it up for the camera. Just kids after all. And while you're stopping by, please check out their shoes!

Those are not the mallrats of my youth. Quite a bit more avant garde ... power to them!

Lol! Those shoes are outrageous! A new approach to sandals and socks! :-D

After you see them for a while, they look normal.

Wonderful shots of these colorful folks! I'm curious about your remark about needing to ask permission to take their photos. In your shot from yesterday you don't seem to have asked the bus passengers if you could shoot the scene, so what made capturing people in a mall a different scenario in your mind? Perhaps that they are minors? I very seldom approach people unless it would be extremely awkward not to or if I know they are moving too fast for me to get the shot of what interests me about their attire. I also don't photograph children's faces without their parents in the shot or without asking parental permission first. Canadians are famous for their civility and politeness, so I wonder if there might be legislation in Toronto about this or just a common etiquette. Street photographers all over the globe don't approach their subjects. Thanks for your thoughts on this,
